Before turning the key, pull it out slightly. If your key is starting to wear out, you may be able to still engage the pins required to start your vehicle by putting the key in all the way and pulling it out slightly again. Try pulling the key out about 1/16-inch. Then try turning the key again.

As you turn the key, wiggle it back and forth. If you can’t turn the key by pulling it out a bit, try moving the key up and down a bit to engage the ignition pins. Make sure you don’t put too much pressure on the key. When you wiggle the key, it will contact the ignition pins from a slightly different angle. This may allow you to start your vehicle. If the key is wiggling, it means that the teeth on your key are worn out and won’t engage the ignition pins properly.
